EDUCATIONAL APPLICATIONS
Individual
A great tool for open-ended discussions about how a child is feeling. Place a set of cards face down on a stack. Turn over the top card, Have a child name the emotion and make a face to match.
Group Setting
Spread out the cards face up. Have children take turns to choose a card but don’t tell the other players what they have chosen. The child makes a face to see if the other players can guess which emotion it is…. Matching game pick two that match. Sort cards into positive and negative motions discuss why each emotion is in the nominated group… Play emotion snap.
Outdoors
Take the children outside to discuss the tiles, use the pieces to evoke imaginative play. Play a game where the children can take turns doing activities outside which relate to each emotion ie, things that make them happy, frustrated, sad etc and discuss why.
Learning Opportunities
This is a great activity to get children to regulate and recognise their own feelings and emotions, as well as learn to recognise and empathise with the emotions of others. Social play, turn-taking skills, listening and language skills.
